Team History

The UGA Ice Hockey Team, dubbed the "ICE DOGS”! The team was established in 1987 by team founder Larry Hall and a group of students wanting to start a new tradition at Georgia. The ICE DOGS compete in the Southern Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, and play under NCAA rules. GEORGIA faces-off against several SEC opponents including Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Other southern rival opponents include Clemson, Florida State, and of course bitter rival Georgia Tech. The GEORGIA BULLDOG hockey program is looking forward to lacing up the skates and hitting the ice on into a new era.

GEORGIA Ice Hockey has made great strides in the last decade, completing ten consecutive winning seasons, making the league playoffs in 8 of the last 10 campaigns, winning three season conference titles, one conference championship (2004) and playing in three CHS conference championship games. The GEORGIA BULLDOGS have also defeated rivals Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, and Clemson in each of the last six seasons, while defeating Georgia Tech in five of the last seven seasons.

Last season the Ice Dogs compiled a 30-4 record which was the best ever by a Georgia Hockey team. In doing so, the Dogs won the CHS conference regular season title and championship, and was invited as the #1 seed in the South to the ACHA National Championship Tournament in Phoenix, AZ. Georgia won their first three games of the tournament defeating Radford University (VA), University of Wyoming, and advanced to the national championship game, where they were defeated by Calvin College (MI). Finishing second in the nation among some of the best non-varsity hockey teams was a proud accomplishment for the team that represents the University of Georgia.
