The University of Georgia Ice Dogs were crowned champions of the 2013 Savannah Hockey Classic on Saturday night in front of nearly 5,500 fans in the Savannah Civic Center. The Ice Dogs pounded the Florida Gators on Friday night 7-3 to set themselves up to win the 15th annual “Rumble in the Rink” on Saturday. Florida State defeated Ga Tech on Friday night 5-4 in an overtime shootout. The Gators stomped FSU 6-2 in Saturday’s opening game, so despite dropping the marquee game to the Yellowjackets Friday night 3-1, Georgia won the coveted Thrasher Cup by virtue of tiebreaker since all of the teams finished 1-1 over the weekend. This marked the 6th Thrasher Cup championship for Georgia, but the first since 2007.
