Georgia vs Alabama – 7pm CST – Huntsville Ice Complex

The Georgia Ice Dogs are set to take on the defending SEC Hockey champions Alabama frozen tide in the SEC tournament opening game this Friday at the Ice Complex in Huntsville, AL. Georgia finished the regular season tied for 2nd in the SEC East division with Florida at 5-3, but the Gators narrowly edged the Dogs in SEC games goal-differntial tie breaker giving Florida the #2 seed and Georgia #3. Alabama finished 2nd in the West to lock in the classic battle with Georgia. Alabama qualified for the sweet 16 in the ACHA DIII national tournament last weekend, and will be considered the favorite in their game against the Dogs. “We have shown that we can play with, and beat, the best in the SEC,” head coach John Hoos commented, “but the players know they will have to earn it against Alabama. It comes down to effort, execution, and discipline for us to put ourselves in a position to beat the deending SEC champ.” Georgia has been shorthanded with several players sidelined by injury and non team-related matters. Despite the shortages the Ice Dogs managed to with the Thrasher cup Championship on January 19 with an upsest vicotry over Florida, but have struggled with depth issues since. The Dawsgs are primed to get back on trach for the SEC Hockey playoffs.
