Ice Dogs Ready for Trio of Games at Home – Athens, GA
The Georgia Ice Dogs are gearing up to get back on track this weekend thanks to three days of hockey, which features games in the Athens Classic Center Arena against Auburn on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., Tennessee on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and the UGA Hockey alumni squad on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Coming off of a disappointing 6-2 defeat at the hands of Florida on Sunday in their home opener, the Ice Dogs will try to get a tally in the win column by first toppling the Auburn Tigers, split the series 1-1 last year with Georgia, but are off to an 0-3 start this year.
The Ice Dogs will then hit the ice again on Saturday in another SEC matchup against the 2-0 Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia is hoping to draw from its success in their last rumble with the Vols on Jan. 24, which culminated in a hard-fought 7-5 win for the Ice Dogs.
Wrapping up the busy weekend will be an entertaining exhibition on Sunday that features Georgia Ice Dogs from the past. Returning to see if they can still compete with the young pups will be many seasoned players from the program’s history, including team founder Larry Hall and joined by current head coach John Hoos.
“The alumni game should be fun on Sunday,” Coach Hoos commented, “but the team is focused on Friday night and working to get a win vs Auburn, then we will turn our attention to a tough Tennessee team. I liked the way we practiced this week, but we are still trying to find some offensive spark.”
