The American Collegiate Hockey Association announced the 2018 Men’s Division III Select Team roster on Monday. Ice Dawgs Carter Penzien and Kyle Harris were selected for the team and will compete in Krasnoyarsk, Russia from September
28-October 8 in the Student Hockey Challenge.
Penzien led the Ice Dawgs in points scored during his junior season and was named Second Team All-American. He played on the SEC All-Star Challenge team in April and led all players with 10 goals scored.
“It’s an honor being selected to the overseas team,” Penzien said. “Throughout last season this trip was just a thought in the back of my mind, and now that it’s getting closer it’s becoming a reality. It’s definitely a blessing and I’m looking forward to representing the University of Georgia while playing in Russia”
Harris, a rising sophomore from Cumming, Georgia, was one of the Ice Dawgs’ toughest defenders during the 2017-2018 season. He was also selected to play on the SEC All-Star Challenge team.
“I am very honored to be selected to be a part of such a great experience lead by a great coaching staff,” Harris said. “Having the opportunity to make the trip as a sophomore is very humbling and hopefully becomes a lifelong memory. Coaches, friends, and family make all that I do possible.”
The ACHA Select Team is made up of 22 players from 14 ACHA colleges and universities. The Student Hockey Challenge International Championship will feature teams from the ACHA, the European University Hockey Association and the Russian Student Hockey League. There will be eight teams competing and each team will play five games during the event.
The event is an official test event for the 29th Winter World University Games, which will be held in Krasnoyarsk in March 2019. The games will be played at venues that will host men’s and women’s hockey events during the games.
