Georgia Scores 44 During Three Game Sweep

The University of Georgia hockey team had a big weekend on the ice scoring 44 goals en route to three consecutive wins. The Ice Dawgs defeated Trine University on Thursday night before winning back-to-back games against the University of Tennessee on Friday and Saturday.

Austin Krusko led the way for the Ice Dawgs on Thursday with three goals in an 8-6 win. Trine led for most of the first period in a game that saw four ties. David Spielberger had a strong performance with two goals in the first two periods. Caleb Santa Maria, Carter Penzien and Aaron Phillips all scored one goal each.

Carter Penzien had a strong outing in game one against Tennessee with five goals in a 15-0 shutout. Three other players had multi-score games with Caleb Santa Maria, Jackson Katz and Eric Mauge all scoring two goals each. Seth Johnston and Jay Stephens both scored one goal.

The Ice Dawgs had another impressive offensive performance on Saturday night with five different players earning a hat trick and ten different players scoring goals. Austin Krusko and Carter Penzien both notched their second hat tricks of the weekend, while Caleb Santa Maria, Christopher Santa Maria and David Spielberger all earned their first hat tricks of the weekend.  Eric Mauge scored two goals with Jackson Katz, Camp Campbell, Jay Stephens and Seth Johnston contributing one goal each. The 21-2 win was the largest margin of victory for the Ice Dawgs this season.

Georgia is riding a five game win streak headed into the 20th annual Savannah Hockey Classic next weekend in Savannah, Georgia. The Ice Dawgs will face off against the University of Florida on January 18 before playing Georgia Tech on January 19. Both games will be at 8:30 PM at the Savannah Civic Center.
